Welcome to our class blog!
We created our Autumn Trees using a brush for the background and tree trunk, and finger painting to create the leaves! We payed special attention to the colours we used for the Autumn leaves.

The class took a trip outside to see what signs of Autumn we could find. We even did some work in the outdoor classroom!
First Class had great fun working at different stations during P.E. and completing lots of different activities!
The boys and girls had great fun studying the theme of houses and homes in school. They used their brilliant imagination to build houses using lots of different materials. They designed their own structures based on a story of a house that grew, and even constructed their own houses out of cardboard boxes brought from home. Take a look at some of their fantastic work! The House that Grew: Building structures using materials found in the classroom: Our finished cardboard houses!
October was another exciting month for us here in first class. We were learning lots about the season of autumn this month, 3D shapes, science experiments, and exploring the festival of Halloween. We began our October by taking a nature walk around the school grounds to see what signs of Autumn we could spot, and try to identify some of the trees which are growing locally. We explored 3D Shapes and made some of our own using playdough. We did some science investigations this month and gave them a spooky Halloween twist! We began by exploring how water changes to ice when it is cold. The children then tested different methods to see how quickly they could melt our frozen Halloween hands! We also made some slime using cornflour, water and food colouring. The boys and girls loved getting their hands messy and exploring how the mixture went from liquid to solid. We also enjoyed making some Halloween art. Look how well it turned out! The children put their creative writing skills to the test and wrote some Halloween poems! What a fun month we have had!
A big welcome back to all of the children after the Summer holidays. We have had a busy and exciting few weeks here in Room 5. A lot of the work we have been doing centred around the theme of myself and as part of this we created our own self-portraits. The children did an excellent job! We spoke about the different things our bodies need to be healthy and designed our very own healthy lunchboxes! The boys and girls have been bringing in lovely, colourful lunches each day. We explored how we have grown and changed, and identified some of the things that we can do now that we couldn't do back then. Before reading the story 'The Smallest Whale', the boys and girls discussed the world under the sea. They brainstormed different things that might be found in the ocean and mixed paints to create an under the sea picture. We read the story afterwards and the class made some fantastic predictions both before and during it. We also read the story 'Tyrannosaurus Drip' which the children really enjoyed. We were inspired after reading it to make some of our own dinosaurs! We have been really enjoying ourselves so far in First Class, and what a wonderful team we have working together!
